10 Things That Will Happen to Your Body When You Hit Your 40s

We are all afraid of ageing and 40 is the threshold we never want to reach. Once we reach 40, it almost feels like we can no longer be the same again. Our bodies will change and so will our mental capabilities. Change is inevitable. But don’t get disheartened just now. The 40s comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Let’s decide for ourselves if it is really all bad like we tend to think:

1. Hair Trouble

Hair doesn’t last for long. We know that and even if you take care of your hair a lot, they will eventually thin out. It’s generally understood that men face it more, just because balding is more visible. Hair thins out on women as they grow older. Unfortunately, the stats are out and 53% of men would go bald by 40.

2. Being a better parent

Growing is all about experience and by 40, you have enough experience that you can bestow upon your children. But mostly, you have learned a lot from them and can now become better parents for your kids. Plus, you are financially sound and can be better providers for your offspring better.

3. Becoming Lactose-Intolerant

Milk is not an easy thing to digest. There are people who cannot process milk from their birth. That doesn’t mean that all of us have the superpower to digest milk all the time. Statistics show that we might be developing some form of lactose intolerance once we reach our 40s. That’s the sad news. But if you have that guilty pleasure for a chocolate ice-cream, it’s time to have it right now.

4. Teeth and problems

Did the chilled water rattle your teeth a lot? You might have teeth sensitivity. The good news about ageing is that you might develop a substance called dentine on your teeth and this calcified tissue will lower your sensitivity. Say goodbye to your rattling sensation. But it’s not going to be merry though. You might develop other oral problems along the way.

5. Growing smaller

Doesn’t your grandma or grandpa look smaller than they actually claim they are? It’s natural – people start shrinking as they grow older. For men, the shrink rate is about 1 inch from their 30s to their 70s. For women, it’s 2 inches. Exercise and keep a proper diet to counter a bit. Let’s stand tall.

6. Metabolism slows down

Your body is not the same when you are 40. It’s mostly your metabolism rate that gets affected. You are not going to be able to process the amount of food that you were able to when you were 20. That’s logical. It’s time to pay attention to the diet and a bit of exercise to burn it out.

7. Confidence is the key

At 40, you don’t mind what people think anymore. You have grown immune to it now. And confidence is attractive. There’s no time for living under stress anymore. Release all toxic elements. So just boast about that bald head – it doesn’t matter anymore.

8. Hearing and Vision Loss

We all know old people have poor vision and require a hearing aid. Sadly, this deterioration starts from 40. Studies show that vision starts getting poorer once you reach 40 and there will be changes in the inner ear.

9. Amazing Immune System

For 40 years, you’ve been exposed to different kinds of bacteria and viruses. You must have become stronger by now. Your immune system knows the threats and can fight it back more efficiently. They have grown professional along with you. You are almost invincible.

10. Changing taste

Taste buds die when we are older. Unfortunately, they don’t regenerate either. So, if you are losing your taste for your favorite food, don’t be sad. It’s time for you to change your taste a bit.

So it’s not all bad at 40. Embrace yourself with confidence and live your life. We are all young if we can think we are.
