Study Finds That Women Need More Sleep Than Men Because They Have More Multi-Tasking Skills
Are you feeling tired? Well, recent studies apparently have found why women need more sleep than men. Although, males and females are better at specific tasks, scientists claim that women can do more multi-tasking and that’s why they need more sleep than men.
Perhaps these news will not appeal to men, however, according to Jim Horne, an emeritus professor at Loughborough University, women need more sleep because they are tired of their work ethics and active minds through the day.
Professor Horne has conducted a study of sleep in which 210 men and women had participated.
“Women’s brains are wired differently from men’s and are more complex, so their sleep need will be slightly greater. The more of your brain you use during the day, the more of it that needs to recover and, consequently, the more sleep you need. Women tend to multi-task – they do lots at once and are flexible – and so they use more of their actual brain than men do. Because of that, their sleep need is greater.”
The sleep study showed that average women need an extra 20 minutes in bed each morning. He pointed out that women are more prone to health problems if they don’t have a good night’s sleep.
“For women, poor sleep is strongly associated with high levels of psychological distress and greater feelings of hostility, depression, and anger. In contrast, these feelings were not associated with the same degree of sleep disruption in men,” he said.
So, ladies, go for your deserved good rest!
